The Daily Show mentions overthrow apology
On The Daily
Show with John Stewart yesterday, the United
States' apology "to Hawaii
for overthrowing its queen" got a humorous mention by correspondent Aasif
Mandvi, in the context of a non-binding resolution condemning the Turks for the
Armenian genocide during World War I.
Crooks and
Liars has
the video. (Not a very humorous topic, I know, but it is The Daily
Show, and the satirical point they were making is that the U.S. has apologized
for the internment of Japanese-Americans during WWII and for the overthrow of
Hawaii's queen, but
hasn't
apologized for slavery or the genocide of Native
Americans.)Update 10/17:
Ryan Ozawa has
more.
