Letters in support of independence

There were three letters in the Maui News yesterday calling for independence, in response to OHA trustee Boyd Mossman's earlier letter in support of federal recognition.

Gaby Gouveia writes "If you want to truly live free and not worry about threats from other nations because of United States foreign policies and courts that favor the rich and connected, then an independent sovereign Hawaiian nation is the only way. Read, then say "no" to the garbage Akaka Bill! Strive for an independent Hawaiian Nation and bring back the aloha for all!"

Foster Ampong writes: "The 'vocal minority with sights set on secession and complete removal from the United States' is based on opinion and not established facts. The vocal minority he refers to in reality are patriotic citizens of a sovereign country illegally invaded and occupied, thus making 'secession' from the United States unfounded and an incorrect and an unjust application of the word."

David M. K. Inciong II writes: "There are many Hawaiians who are seeking to end the U.S. occupation of our territory. Through selective, revised teaching, conditioning and propaganda, many islanders have been deceived by the fraud committed by the U.S. ... [The Akaka bill ] we have been vehemently against because it denies our complexion of an independent nation with international ties. Our true history has been suppressed and distorted to make Americans feel good. Hawaiians and a few non-Hawaiians are aware of this and are unified in seeking total independence, which is our lawful right. Many groups are like political parties who envision a way to attain it through what they feel will accomplish what we all want. It's time to pay the piper and free Hawaii."
