Treaty Nations for May Day
A friend of ours who is from Denmark, who now
lives here in Hana and is married to a Hawaiian kane, mentioned that she was
going to the Hana School to teach some students a Danish song for May Day.
Apparently, the program involves different classes researching and portraying
the cultures of the Hawaiian Kingdom's treaty partners. The cool thing is that
the kids came up with the idea themselves. But sounds like a good curriculum
idea for others to think about. What a great way to learn world geography and
culture and Hawaiian history at the same time. And of course Kekula pulled out
her stack of copies of the treaties to send to the school to make copies so the
different classes can see the treaty of the country they're representing.
