Kamehameha statue at the U.S. Capitol was
being mistreated,
according to leaders of Hawaii's royal societies, but they are satisfied with
the Capitol architect's response to their
concerns.And a letter in the
Advertiser today from the chairman, president and CEO of
Hawaii's largest
company, Hawaiian Electric Industries, supporting
Hawaiian preference programs: "Those who support the programs argue
that they improve Hawaiian well-being, which improves our entire state. I agree
with them." I agree with him, except that Hawaii is not a
state.Queen Lili'uokalani's
165th birthday will be commemorated with a
Grand
Lu'au, 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 28 at 'Iolani Palace.
