Online poll question on Akaka Bill too limited
I got a bit of a surprise today when I saw that a
note I had sent to the Maui News intended to be only a suggestion got
published
as a letter, but I guess I'm glad they did publish it :)
Online poll question on Akaka Bill too
limited
The Akaka Bill poll question
(www. mauinews.com) is rather limited
because:
1. It doesn't distinguish
between those who oppose the Akaka Bill for different reasons (since people on
opposite sides of the independence issue - those who oppose Hawaiian rights and
those who support independence - agree in opposition to the Akaka
Bill).
2. It doesn't allow one to say
that one supports independence instead, or that one might support the Akaka Bill
but would prefer independence (which is the position of many who support
it).
So I would like to suggest you
have a poll on independence, asking a question
like:
If Hawaii was recognized as an
independent country, would you like to be a
citizen?
