Ka La Ho'iho'i Ea - Restoration Day on Mauna Kea
Received via email, another Restoration Day
activity:On Sunday, July 31, at high noon, members of Royal Order of Kamehameha I (Hilo Chapter), Mauna Kea Anaina Hou, Huaka'i I Na 'Aina Mauna, and other individuals, will celebrate Restoration Day on the summit of Mauna Kea.
Anyone who wants to join us is welcome. We will meet at the Information Center at HalePohaku at 9,000 foot elevation at 10:15 a.m. After acclimating, we will drive up to the summit area, then hike to the (actual) summit - to be in place to start our ceremonies at noon sharp.
Additionally, we will commemorate (with his parents) the recent death of Lt. Nainoa Hoe (in Iraq) - and his return to Akua and his 'Aumakua.
So - at noon on this date - please pause a moment and know that there are others of our LaHui who are up on the mountain doing some of the same celebrating that you're doing. Except that we will be "on top of the world" with our flag flying above all other flags in the so-called state of hawaii - a symbolism that many of us hope will eventually become a reality.
