The Ku`e Anti-Annexation Petitions was the topic of discussion in this, and many other meetings where a hundreds of nationals of the Hawaiian Kingdom gathered in 1897. In 1997, one hundred years later, Dr. Noenoe Silva returned the Ku'e Petitions to Hawai'i, from the National Archives of the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. It was on display at the Bishop Museum in Honolulu in 1998. The Ku'e Petitions has become known as the document all people of Hawaiian ancestry can point to that represents the unified voice of our people. It remains proof of the voices of our kupuna, their unity of mind and spirit, and the passion they demonstrated for their beloved Queen Lili'uokalani and the Hawaiian Kingdom. Ka Lei Maile Ali`i –The Queen's Women is our mo`olelo. It reminds us that: • Our kūpuna did not want to be part of America. • Our kūpuna had faith in the truth and meaning of being pono as a nation of people committed to the preservation of their independent Hawaiian Kingdom. Join us to experience the spiritual, cultural, and emotional energy of that day in Hilo in 1897, when the people of the Hawaiian Kingdom collectively made their will known. Be in the audience; listen to the words spoken 107 years ago; live, if only briefly, the momentous events that tell us, we are who we were. Posted: Mon - August 22, 2005 at 04:43 PM |
