NATIVE BOOKS at Ward Warehouse
Speaker: Law Professor, Williamson Chang
Topic: Looking beyond the overthrow of 1893. This event will feature a new viewpoint on the importance of looking at the events of 1898, as the pivotal turning point in Hawaii, and responsible for the massive confusion about Hawaii's legal status today. This talk will also touch upon the very hot topic the Kamehameha Schools petition for en banc review of a U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals panel decision overturning the schools policy of offering admissions preference to applicants of Hawaiian ancestry.

Topic: The importance of, and the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of 1840 of the Hawaiian Kingdom. This discussion will touch upon the ancient land-use rights that existed in Hawaii prior to the Mahele.

Topic: Recognition of Hawaiian Independence, and a celebration of the actual Independence Day of the Hawaiian Kingdom, which is November 28th. This talk will feature a more in depth look at the importance of political recognition as an independent state within the international legal arena.
