Sai & Young invited to Oxford Roundtable
D. Keanu Sai and Prof. Kanalu Young have been
invited to participate in sessions of the Oxford Roundtable in
2006.
Sai's will be participating in two roundtable sessions in August. The first from August 6-11, 2006 at Lincoln College in the University of Oxford, is entitled "Global Security in the 21st Century." The second roundtable session is scheduled from August 13-18, 2006 at St. Anne's College at the University of Oxford and devoted to the topic of "History as a Guide to the New International Order: The United States, Europe and China on the 21st Century."
Young will be participating in a roundtable in March, on the subject of "Indigenous and National identities and the effect of American hegemony on their respective expressions."
This seems to be a pretty big deal. As an email circulated in the UH PoliSci list says: "This prestigious Oxford Round Table sits high governmental officials and professors. Participants are 'invitation only' and comprise of a very small group of international leaders, academicians, etc."
The fact that they have been invited to participate in these discussions indicates something about who is paying attention to what's happening in Hawaii and taking seriously the work that they are doing.
