Hawaii independence movement on Politics in the Zeros blog

Bob at Politics in the Zeros blog has posted an item on the "Hawaii independence movement" for which I furnished the information. He links to several of my past diaries on DailyKos to provide background on Hawaii's history and legal status, and on the Akaka bill.

This is a good bit of exposure because his blog is a sort of mid-level progressive blog, with a good number of other blogs linking to it (404 links from 113 sites to be exact). As I have noted in his comments, both the Akaka bill for federal recognition of Native Hawaiians, and the independence struggle which is much broader, have been discussed quite a bit in conservative blogs and traditional media, but progressive blogs have been pretty much silent on these matters. While the issues have very real and important consequences for us here in Hawaii, the implications go much beyond the islands, so I really appreciate the exposure he's providing.

Also, one quick note on the title of his post. It has been rightly pointed out that Hawaii already is independent and has continued being so since it was first recognized in 1843, it is just under prolonged occupation, so it isn't really a movement for independence. Rather, it is a movement to educate about Hawaii's independent status, and to restore the effective exercise of independence. A subtle but important distinction.
