Sudden Rush on iPod = instant credibility points

In her Advertiser column yesterday, Lee Cataluna discusses "the softball interview question of this election year: 'So what's playing on your iPod?'" and notes that: "For an OHA race, 'E Ala E,' 'Waimanalo Blues' and 'Paradise Lost' from Sudden Rush might be the winning answers. Actually, anybody who has Sudden Rush on their iPod gets instant credibility points. That group has cultivated the cultural weight of Tupac Shakur, NWA and Grandmaster Flash."

Here's some lyrics from "Paradise Lost":

blow ka makani, ka makani won't you blow
let my people understand, let my people know

how would you feel if you were forced to kneel to another
who desecrates the land, better known as my brother

and another thing, if you don't have the blood in your veins
you call you yourself Hawaiian, huh, you better think again

so don't get my wrong, I won't wanna be mistaken
this is for the punks out there who are faking

perpetrating, trying to be something that they're not
every day, every way, always takin' what I got

lying to the people, hoping that we don't unite
like you wanna claim my blood and by birthright

being born on the islands don't make you one Hawaiian
and I only speak the truth, there's no reason to be lyin'

but I got a lot of love for the land and the people
cause we're all in this together, everybody here is equal

no matter what the color, no matter what the race
if you love the land then you belong in this place

no matter what you are, just be careful of what you do
take care of the land and the land'll take care you

and to the natives out there who don't give a damn
you got no business livin' on your own land

be proud of the blood that is flowin' in your system
the strongest weapon that a man can have is his wisdom

so fight, Hawaiians, fight, no matter what the cost
do you wanna live in paradise, or a paradise lost?

blow ka makani, ka makani won't you blow
let my people understand, let my people know

And the verses from Iz's "E Ala E":
We the voices behind the face,
Of the Hawaiian nation, the Hawaiian race.
Rise for justice the day has come
For all our people to stand as one.

We the warriors born to live
On what the land and sea can give.
Defend our birthright to be free
Give our children liberty.
