Hawaiian Society of Law & Politics Symposium 2/28 — "Ka Nalu:
Towards a Hawaiian National Consciousness"
From the The Hawaiian Society of Law and
Politics:The Hawaiian
Society of Law and Politics will be hosting its 3rd Biennial symposium on
Saturday, February 28th 2009 on O'ahu, Hawaiian Islands at the Imin Center at
the East West Center on the campus of the University of Hawai'i. The conference
will be from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. The title of the conference is: Ka Nalu:
Towards a Hawaiian National Consciousness. The title references two things.
First HSLP would like to pay tribute to the late Dr. Kanalu Young for his
contributions to HSLP as its faculty advisor and his continued dedication to
HSLP. Second, it acknowledges another "wave" of scholarship and the graduation
of three HSLP members with their PHD's. Dr. Kamana Beamer (Geography), Dr.
Sydney Iaukea (Political Science) and Dr. Keanu Sai (Political Science) will be
the featured presenters. The format for the conference will consist of a 45
minute presentation, 30 minutes of directed question and answer, followed by a
15 minute break. In the afternoon, a panel discussion focused on curriculum
development, each individual's progress on publication of their respective
books, Kamehameha Publishing's involvement with publishing HSLP's second
journal, and other topics related to HSLP and curriculum development.
