Lincoln's personal letter of condolence to King Kamehameha V
As America honors the 200th anniversary of the
birth of its 16th president Abraham Lincoln today, the Advertiser has a
story
about four documents from Lincoln that are in the Hawaii archives from the
kingdom, including a personal four-page letter of condolence that President
Lincoln wrote to King Kamehameha V in 1864, following the death of Kamehameha
V's younger brother, King Kamehameha IV.
