Sovereignty Conference remarkably civil, honest
In a letter to the Maui News, Tom McKinlay
says:Even with the intense emotions
and the huge historic implications involved, the Sovereignty Conference at
Maui Community College Dec. 8 was one of the most civilized public discussions
I've ever seen. None of the civility
seemed at the expense of honesty. This was intense stuff, but the speakers
honored even the striking differences between themselves. They also directly
responded to questions from the audience and, perhaps more importantly, they
seemed to really listen to what members of the audience had to
say. What a thing in this Hawaiian
human rights process to see! I'm amazed.
