‘EA—The Voice of a Sovereign Nation
Art exhibition and 2 poetry readings with Imaikalani Kalahele–honoring our kupuna and marking two important dates concerning Hawaiÿiÿs sovereignty.
Sunday, July 4th from 2:00pm to 5:00pm
Art exhibition reception and poetry reading with Imaikalani Kalahele. Imai and his band will perform works that are politically charged, emotion filled and from the heart with Imaiÿs artwork as the backdrop. This reading is a “protest” to mark the day the Provisional Government declared itself the Republic of Hawaii.
Saturday, July 31th from 3:00/3:30pm to 5:30pm • Ka La Hoÿi Hoÿi ÿEa!
Closing celebration and poetry reading with Imaikalani Kalahele. Imai and his band will perform works that continue the theme of ÿEA. This second reading, marks the day known as Lä Hoÿi Hoÿi ÿEa, the day Admiral Thomas (British) returned the Kingdom back to the Monarchy after and illegal takeover; the handover took place at Thomas Square Park.
The Aupuni Artwall is a project of the Young of Heart Workshop, a 25 years old Hawaiÿi not-for-profit started by Emma Meyer. The Artwall & Gallery is dedicated to contemporary native Hawaiian art and artisans. Donations are welcome, and sales from the Artwall go to the organization for future shows, and to assist and promote native Hawaiian contemporary art.
