Thousands march in waikiki for hawaiian rights
The top stories in the Advertiser
and the Star-Bulletin
today report that thousands of people
marched through Waikiki for Hawaiian rights
yesterday, in a remarkable show of unity. KITV
News gives the estimate of
10,000 people
participating, which may be the largest event
since the 1993 overthrow commemoration. While some opposed the Akaka Bill for
federal recognition and some supported it, all supported Hawaiian rights and
sovereignty one way or another. And
the traditional voyaging canoe Hokule'a
set sail for Kaua'i and Nihoa on a mission of cultural and
environmental education.
