Anti-Hawaiian lawsuit delayed; protests on maui
The Advertiser reports
that, in a move that has frustrated the plaintiffs,
"A federal judge has delayed until Jan. 12
the first substantive decisions in a lawsuit that challenges government programs
that benefit only Hawaiians, while lawyers
argue over whether the federal government must be involved in the case." The
Star-Bulletin has a similar story,
which also says that "More than 50 people protested near the federal court
building in support for Hawaiian entitlements and programs before the conference
started." The Maui News reports that
"About 50 Native Hawaiians and their
supporters held signs along Kaahumanu Avenue
on Monday morning to demonstrate unity and to call for justice for Native
Hawaiians." The article also mentions that another "Peaceful Awareness"
demonstration to support the Kamehameha Schools trust will be held at 4 p.m.
today in Lahaina, organized by Na Kupuna O
Maui.The Corky cartoon
has Kamehameha's statue dressed in red for yesterday's march through
Waikiki.
