KS gets extension to file rehearing request
The
Advertiser
reports
that "Kamehameha Schools has been granted an
additional week to formally request a rehearing of the court decision that ruled
the institution's admissions policy constitutes unlawful racial
discrimination."
The Star-Bulletin has more, saying "The school now has until Aug. 23 to file a petition for an 'en banc' rehearing of the case. If a majority of the 28 judges with the court approve, the case will be reheard before a panel of 11 judges." And also mentions that "The Kamehameha Schools Alumni Association, meanwhile, is sponsoring a rally and march in San Francisco next Saturday to protest last week's decision."
The Star-Bulletin has a couple letters on the case, including Dirk N. Soma pointing out the many beneficial programs that KS supports. And the Advertiser has three letters re KS, including this from Michael Groholski:

Disregarding the cause, I was shocked and saddened to see our governor on Saturday morning speaking publicly at 'Iolani Palace in strong support of a group displaying bedsheet-sized banners proclaiming "We Are Not Americans" and "We Will Never Be Americans."
