Maui News online poll includes independence
Maui
News is currently running a poll on their
home page asking
the
question:A recent study says Native Hawaiians lag behind other ethnic groups in social, economic and other areas. What would most help the welfare of Native Hawaiians?
- Provide for a Native Hawaiian entity that can restore cultural pride and identity.
- Allow Kamehameha Schools to continue giving admission preference to Native Hawaiian children.
- Kamehameha Schools should broaden its outreach to less academically able Native Hawaiian students.
- Independence from the United States.
- None of the above.
Just the fact that the poll includes
independence tells you something, but right now independence has 18%, more
support than "Native Hawaiian entity" at about 15%, which would seem to indicate
the Akaka bill.
