My letter for Bumpy in the Maui News

Today's Maui News letter:
Candidate has practical ideas for Hawaiians

I am asking my Maui friends to vote for Dennis "Bumpy" Kanahele for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs trustee at-large. Remember, all Hawaii voters can vote in OHA elections, regardless of whether you are Native Hawaiian, or where you reside.

I have known and worked with Bumpy for over 10 years and have the highest regard for him. He is one of the most authentic human beings who I've ever had the fortune to meet. He is a truly good man who cares with deep compassion about his fellow human beings, the earth and our destiny on it.

Bumpy makes clear that his primary mission is to protect and support the Native Hawaiian people. At the same time, Bumpy is inclusive, both personally and politically. He has always welcomed non-Hawaiians to become involved, and emphasized that the Hawaiian movement must include and protect the rights and well-being of all the other innocent people who also love Hawaii.

Bumpy has practical plans that he will seek to implement at OHA. First among these is his proposal to create a Native Hawaiian bank using the tremendous assets held by OHA and other Hawaiian institutions. Once this economic foundation is implemented, it will be much easier to address all the other social and economic issues – health, housing, education, jobs, etc.

Bumpy Kanehele is a fresh voice that will help to bring new direction to OHA. Please vote Kanahele on Nov. 7. Visit VoteBumpyKanahele.com for more information.

There's also Ken Conklin's letter calling for votes for Bumpy and Jackie Burke (Oahu seat), and Robert Uluwehi Cazimero's endorsement of Manu Boyd also in the at-large seat.
