Kucinich impressive showing in Hawaii
In last night's Democratic party primary
caucuses, Rep. Dennis Kucinich
made an impressive second-place finish with
30 percent of the vote, and won his first elected delegates. Kucinich actually
won Maui with 53% of the vote to Kerry's 31%. Star-Bulletin
story;
Advertiser story.As
mentioned in these articles, a lot of new voters signed up with the Democratic
party to participate in the caucuses. At my caucus location, many were young
people who were probably voting for their first time, and I'm sure they would
not have come out if not for Kucinich. Regardless of his chance (or lack
thereof) to win the nomination, people felt that Hawaii had an opportunity to
send a message in support of his vision of peace, and to say something about
Hawaii at the same time.
