Protesters take over UH president's office
Things are heating up over at UH re the
UARC!The AP
reports
via the Advertiser
that "Students, faculty members and community
activists took over the University of Hawai'i president's office yesterday to
protest a proposed military research
laboratory.""What I see here is the
militarization of the university and Hawai'i," said Noel Kent, who has taught
ethnic studies at UH for 32 years. "That's what is
scary."The
Star-Bulletin
also has a story.The
protest is being blogged
continuously at the StopUARC.info site! Great use of
blogging. Go there for current updates, pictures,
etc.Apparently they also have hoisted
a Hawaiian kingdom flag up the University's
flagpole.I have posted a brief
diary over at DailyKos to hopefully help spread the word a bit, if
anyone wants to comment there or monitor the
comments.UPDATE:
According to the protest blog: "There are now
42 features worldwide about the
occupation of UH President David McClain's
office, including Wired News and the London Gaurdian, San Jose Mercury News,
Seattle Post Intelligencer, Washington Post, Newsday, Navy Times and dozens of
local newspapers and television stations - following is the link for the London
Gaurdian's University
Plan for Navy Center Protested."
