Stop UARC occupation releases new proposal

The Stop UARC coalition currently occupying the administration building at the University of Hawaii has posted their new four-point proposal/demands (PDF) to stop the military research center that was announced at a press conference this morning, along with expanded explanation (PDF). Excerpt from the press release:
This morning we are sharing with the public our four-point proposal for addressing the issue of a UARC between now and October.
  1. Last Friday, in Bachman Hall, Interim President David McClain stated in his own words that he brought the UARC to the Board of Regents “prematurely.” This mistake was yet another step in a flawed process. We appreciate that Dr. McClain has expressed willingness to “own the problem.” Now he has the opportunity to make it right by taking back his request for the Board of Regents’ provisional approval. This will clear the way for a fair, full, and open public analysis of the UARC’s impacts.
  2. The only wise course to take at this time is to suspend further steps towards establishing a UARC until a fair analysis is completed. We ask Dr. McClain to assure us that the UARC will not be taken to the Board of Regents before October 1st.
  3. Until now, decisions about the UARC have been made in secret. In order to restore openness to our University, we are requesting that President McClain make all documents about the UARC available to the public.
  4. The negative impacts of a UARC have been ignored. The public has a right to know. We therefore ask Dr. McClain for the opportunity to present relevant information in a public meeting with the Board of Regents.
We would like President McClain to agree to this proposal by noon today and to implement these four points by May 12. If he agrees to these reasonable points, we are prepared to leave Bachman Hall today. If he does not, it means the UARC process remains flawed. In that case we are resolved to maintain our occupation because we care so deeply about our University.

Michael Moore has splashed the occupation across his front page. Very cool.
