Definition of military occupation?
CW4 Danny Barlow from Logistical Task Force 725
in Bagram, Afghanistan writes a letter
demonstrating his ignorance about the meaning of military occupation, which is
unfortunate considering that he is part of a stated military occupation of
Afghanistan. He says: "Military occupation is what the Nazis did in Germany, the
North Koreans in their country. Military occupation is when a country is ruled
by the military." Well, actually, no. What the Nazis did in Germany and the
North Koreans in their country is military dictatorship. Military occupation is
when a military power exerts control over a foreign territory, which a strong
legal argument can be made that Hawaii is.
