Army will consult with USF&W over Makua
With the Earthjustice Legal Defense Fund
threatening a lawsuit, the
Army yesterday said it will
"formally consult" with the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service over a 900-acre "controlled
burn" that got out of control July 22 and scorched 2,100 acres in the
Makua Military
Reservation, a valley Hawaiians consider
sacred.Rev. Kaleo
Patterson, a longtime vocal independence
advocate, along with his wife and parents, and six other family members, barely
escaped a fire early Sunday that damaged their four-bedroom home in
Makaha. Mahalo Ke Akua they are safe.
