Re: Pule `Aina (Land Prayer) gathering to Stop Stryker at Pohakuloa Military Training Area (PTA)

Further contact: Jim Albertini 966-7622

"There will be a Pule `Aina (Land Prayer) gathering at the Pu`u Ka Pele Ahu off Saddle Road in the heart of Hawaii Island on Sunday, Feb. 12th beginning at 12 noon," said Jim Albertini of Malu `Aina Center For Non-violent Education & Action. According to Albertini, "the Pule `Aina is a time to stand up for justice and peace, stand up for our `Aina, to protect cultural sites, natural resources, and our iwi Kupuna." It's a time to say aloha Aina to stop the military planned Stryker invasion and destruction that will accompany the hundreds of 20 ton wheeled tanks that plan to train here. The military wants to take over 23,000 additional acres of land near Pu`u Ka Pele on the leeward side of the existing 109,000-acre Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA) for Stryker training.

Albertini said, "I ask everyone to come with a pono attitude, and bring a pohaku (stone) to represent your family and commitment to protect the `Aina. Pohaku will be used to add to the ahu at Pu`u Ka Pele to symbolize our unity as a people. A Pule Aina gathering in April 05 was attended by 75 people. Another in Sept. by 150 people. You may also want to bring ho`okupu (offering) of gratitude to the `Aina that feeds us."

Albertini said there will be a carpool leaving from Hilo's bay front parking lot across from the soccer fields at 10:30 AM Sunday. At noon people will meet at Mauna Kea State Park on the Saddle Road near the 32 mile marker for an overview of the day and issues involved. At 12:30 people will carpool to Pu`u Ka Pele for the Pule `Aina. Albertini said military police at PTA have been informed of the Pule `Aina and we expect no interference with this prayerful event. We extend an open invitation to participate in the Pule `Aina gathering.
