& the Board of Regents to uphold community's decision: NO
UARC!When: Wednesday May 10, 2006 5 p.m. -
12 a.m.Where: 2234 Hunnewell
StWho: Faculty, Students, Community Members
and NeighborsPlease join us in a
candelight vigil to call on UH President David McClain to uphold the community's
decision against a secretive military research center called UARC ("University
Affiliated Research Center"). Over the last 15 months, the student governments,
the Faculty Senate, and the Native Hawaiian advisory councils all voted against
the controversial plan. Manoa Chancellor David Konan honored this consensus by
opposing UARC. However, David McClain has continued to push for its approval. On
Wednesday evening, we will hold candles to show our vigilance, and also light a
traditional kukui lamp to represent the flame of malamalama (knowledge), which
is an emblem of the University of Hawaii. We are the keepers of the spirit of
the university, and we hope that David McClain will join us by upholding the
community's decision: NO UARC!StopUARC.info
