UARC UH/Navy contract negotation emails released
Advertiser
reports
that a FOIA request from AFSC-Hawaii has resulted in the
release of internal e-mails between senior U.S. Navy officials and University of
Hawai'i officials regarding the proposed university affiliated research center.
The emails show, among other things, how opposition to the proposal caused a
delay in the contract award. Opponents are still exploring avenues to keep the
UARC contract from being signed. For more background and info see stopuarc.info.Update
7/14: More on another angle of the UARC
opposition from today's Advertiser story:Eight members of the University of Hawai'i at Manoa faculty say they plan to appeal, through their faculty union, a denial of their formal complaints opposing the proposed university affiliated research center.
The faculty members say they were told Wednesday that their formal complaints filed in March opposing the UARC were rejected by the university's legal counsel. The complaints allege that UH President David McClain violated five Board of Regent policies, including rules of faculty governance and discrimination, when he recommended in February that the university move forward with a proposed U.S. Navy UARC.
