Secrecy helped spawn protest at university
Miriam Sharma, professor of Asian studies at the
University of Hawai'i-Manoa, has an excellent
commentary
in the
Advertiser
defending the Stop UARC protests. She says given the secrecy of the process and
the unresponsiveness of the administration, "innovative ways of breaking the
silence had to be found, and that is exactly what the group in opposition has
done. They have finally caught the attention of the interim president, and
access to the media has proven to be a brilliant tactic for putting their ideas
out there." It is well worth reading
the rest for yourself.
