UH as a Peace University
Anthony J.
Marsella, professor emeritus in the Department
of Psychology at the University of Hawaii-Manoa, has an
op-ed
piece in the
Star-Bulletin
calling for us to consider the possibility of establishing UH as a
"peace
university," and provides a number of examples
of what that might mean. Worth a read. Definitely consistent with what a lot of
folks who support independence see as Hawaii's larger role in the world. (FYI, I
was part of the Peace and Justice
Studies Program at Tufts University as an undergraduate, and it helped
shape a lot of my perspectives and gave me an important context when I came back
to Hawaii after graduating and starting learning the truth about Hawaii's
history and political status.)The
S-B
also has some letters
about the UARC protests.
