"Noho Hewa" filmmaker coming to Bay Area-militarization of Hawai'i

Received this via email. Keala Kelly has done some very important journalistic work, such as exposing the connections between the Akaka bill and oil interests in Alaska, and this promises to be a powerful and important documentary. You can see the website for the film at NohoHewa.com. Click on the "Occupied Areas" link to see a great interactive map showing just how much of Hawaii the military is either actively occupying or has damaged through previous use. Anyway, readers in the Bay Area, please contact Amy Marsh at the email below to connect with Keala while she's there and support this important project.
Aloha kakou,

The militarization of Hawai'i has brought many problems: environmental degradation, toxins, military land "grabs," unexploded ordnance everywhere, the looming prospect of the Stryker Brigade, etc. Therefore I was excited to get an email just yesterday about Keala Kelly's documentary in progress, "Noho Hewa."

Keala Kelly will be visiting the Bay Area May 15-20. She'll be bringing a cut of the film "Noho Hewa" with her. She's been working on this documentary about the militarization of Hawai'i for the last 2 years and because a number of important issues are coming to a head, such as the Stryker Brigade's deployment, she would like opportunities to show this rough cut to as many people as she can while she's here.

If anyone would like to arrange a home showing and invite friends, please do! If you know anyone who can set up a showing at a school, halau, library, or community center, please let me know ASAP and I will pass the info on to Keala. Keala will appreciate any contacts or ideas you may have for getting the word out about the movie and the important issues it examines. If possible, it would be great to make any showing a fundraiser as she's working with no funds at the moment, as she edits the film.

Mahalo for any ideas, support, you can offer to this filmmaker. I am tentatively scheduling a Weds., May 18th showing at my home. If you would like to come, let me know!
