Included in this e-mail is an update on GMO taro from Hawaiian activist Walter Ritte...

Aloha, I would like to thank the Maui GMO gang for helping me to get to the Taro Fest in Hana. I had a chance to speak to many people about the dangers of GMO and got a good response on the need to stop GE of Kalo. It was worth the long drive to see the understanding from the growers faces as they were told what researchers were doing to the sacred Kalo.
Monday, Sen Hee set up a meeting with the dean of CTAHR, Andy Hashimoto. I had requested to the dean last week that we put in writing the agreements we made at an earlier meeting. Andy responded that I should work with another Hawaiian group that they had picked to represent the Hawaiian community. I felt screwed. Well to make a long story easy to understand, today it was agreed upon that there will be a moritorium on any GE of Hawaiian Taro within CTAHR, which is the college of tropical Ag at UH. This agreement will be put in writing with a target date of May 15. There will also be a public press conference to announce this agreement. It will then be up to all of us to take this agreement and push other agencies county state and fed. to do the same. This would be a small victory that I hope we can all be a part off by supporting this day at the press conference when the details become avail. Walter.
