conference on cultural and intellectual property rights
Pacific Business News reports
that the Ilioulaokalani Coalition is scheduled to present Ka Aha Pono: a conference on
cultural and intellectual property
rights Oct. 3 to 5 at the Waikiki Beach
Marriott Resort. "The conference is a venue for Native Hawaiians to discuss
intellectual and cultural property rights. The goal is to develop a collective
statement to assert Native Hawaiian rights to collective traditional knowledge,
cultural expressions, art forms and intellectual property rights and to
encourage the private sector and general public to recognize, protect and honor
Native Hawaiian rights. Conference presenters come from a variety of disciplines
and experiences, including kumu hula, cultural practitioners, musicians,
producers, artists and attorneys -- who will discuss strategies and legal
systems to protect collective Native Hawaiian intellectual property rights and
knowledge."
