Hawaiian canoes helps soldiers wounded in Iraq
The Maui
News has a moving
story
today about a program that uses Hawaiian outrigger canoes to help military
personnel who have returned from Iraq with missing limb(s) to recover their
abilities, energy, spirit and self-worth. The story focuses on Clifford Nae'ole,
cultural practitioner/expert from Maui who has been involved with blessing the
canoes in the Chesapeake Bay near Walter Reed Army Medical Center. It talks
about how Hawaiian values are inherent in the canoe and the culture of the
canoe, even with non-Hawaiians far away from the islands. Definitely worth
reading and
supporting.
