Traditional Poi Pounding
Since I spent my weekend at the kalo farm (pics
later) I thought it would be good to start back with this
article
from West Hawaii
Today (hat tip to Doug) about
traditional poi pounding. On that
topic, we (Kipahulu Ohana)
recently provided kalo from the farm for a big family reunion here in Hana, and
the ohana had everyone there, about 400 people, take turns pounding the poi,
making sure there was enough pounded for everyone to eat poi, putting everyone's
mana and aloha into it, and making sure everyone had the experience and
knowledge of this important tradition. Very cool.
We also do traditional poi pounding
demonstrations at the East Maui Taro
Festival each year.
