HAWAI’INUIAKEA FILM FESTIVAL 2005
OCTOBER 26-29, 2005
KAMAKAKUOKALANI CENTER FOR HAWAIIAN STUDIES
HALAU O HAUMEA

On opening night we will honor Maori filmmaker Robert Pouwhare, and if his schedule permits, Pouwhare’s special guest, the Honorable Oscar Temaru, long time Tahitian Independence Party candidate, and recently elected President of French Polynesia. On the second night, Hawaiian Women filmmakers are exalted with work by Elizabeth Kapuuwailani Lindsey, Meleana Meyer, and Tuti Baker. The third night is dedicated to honoring the great body of documentary work by Puhipau and Joan Lander of Na Maka o ka Aina, and their determination to give voice to the Hawaiian people through a 'Station for the Nation.'

The final night features the Hawaii premiere of the very first DVD created by the Kamakakuokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies. Directed by former Hawaiian Studies graduate Naalehu Anthony, the video documents young Hawaiian Studies majors testifying at the United Nations. Preliminary to this DVD showing will be an excerpt from the Hawaiian Language play, Kamapua'a, by Hailiopua and Kaliko Baker, and an award winning film short by ACM student Kaliko Palmeira, with his father and brother, Steve and Kai Maii, playing live music for the audience following the screening.

Come and join in this historic event, [running concurrently with the Hawaii International Film Festival]. The HAWAIINUIAKEA film festival is free and open to the public.

Paid parking is available in the parking structure adjacent to the building.
