East Maui Taro Festival
The 14th annual East Maui Taro Festival is
coming up April 1-2 in Hana. The festival itself is held Saturday at the Hana
Ballpark, and includes great music and food (many different uses of kalo),
cultural demonstrations, ag and info tents, plus craft booths. I'll be there
with the Kipahulu 'Ohana
selling poi and other goodies, and I think we'll be doing poi-pounding
demonstrations. Then on Sunday, after a taro pancake breakfast, there are two
excursions, one to Kahanu Garden at
11am and then we'll be hosting one at our Kapahu Living Farm at
1pm. Also, on Friday there will be a canoe launching, plus a
Friday evening
performance of Ka Lei Maile Ali`i-The Queen's
Women re-enactment play by Ka Lei Maile Ali`i Hawaiian Civic
Club.See TaroFestival.org for more
information and scheduling details.
