Telling the truth about tourism and culture
Hawaii
Magazine has a good article
about Doug Chang, the new head of the Hawaii Tourism Authority (who I know as
the GM of Hotel Hana-Maui), and his efforts "to start telling the truth" about
the visitor industry and its relationship with Hawaiian culture, and remake HTA
and the visitor industry to support authentic culture. "What’s happening
today at the HTA is that the Hawaiian Renaissance has finally penetrated the
uppermost level of Hawaii’s visitor industry." (Leimamo Lind as executive
director of the Maui Hotel & Lodging Association is another example.)
