Definition of Hawaiian, immigrant
In the Star-Bulletin letters,
Elliott Phelps writes a rather arrogant letter, saying, "A Hawaiian is as much
of an immigrant as I. With that, I would like to say I'm staying here, and
Hawaiians are welcome to stay, too." Kosta Stojanovich writes about the changing
definition of Native Hawaiian and the eventual disappearance of the Hawaiian
"blood" through intermarriage. Just remember, blood quantum definitions were
created by the state and federal governments, not by Hawaiians.
