OHA's six steps to Hawaiian nationhood

In an Advertiser commentary, Clyde Namu'o, administrator of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, outlines "Six steps to formation of Hawaiian nationhood."

Namu'o concludes by saying, "Realizing a strong Hawaiian nation tomorrow depends upon the participation of the Native Hawaiian people today..." which is true enough, but OHA's actions in pushing an agenda that so many Hawaiians vehemently disagree with will preclude that broad participation. Because OHA has chosen to spend millions of dollars of their beneficiaries' funds pushing for one particular avenue of "nationhood"—federal recognition via the Akaka-Stevens bill—a significant portion of Hawaiians do not trust OHA to steward the process impartially, and the credibility and legitimacy of the process has already been destroyed before it starts, along with whatever results it yields.

One writer on an email list says:

Illegitimate From The Start!

Another HSEC - Another Huge Waste of OHA Beneficiaries' Funds.

State Participation Invalidates Process,

NO Independent Oversight Invalidates Process,

NO Descendants of Non-Hawaiian Hawaii Nationals Invalidates Process

NO legitimacy, so NO Even Think about participating in this bogus show...

All this for Federal Recognition, unbelieveable!
