Update from Kipahulu: Hale blessing; shed

Not much else in the news today, so how about an update from Kipahulu?

This is our 20' x 30' Hale Ku'ai near the Haleakala National Park visitor center for Kipahulu District, directly adjacent to the trail that leads to the famed Pools of ‘Ohe‘o (formerly Seven Sacred Pools). We plan to hold the blessing for the hale at noon on Sunday, April 29, and after that it will be open as a cultural demonstration center where we can show and sell traditional agricultural and craft products from the area. If anyone happens to be in the area at that time, you're welcome to drop by for the blessing.

And we recently built this storage shed at Kapahu Living Farm with the help of a great program at the Hana High School called Ma Ka Hana Ka Ike, run by Rick Rutiz. Rick teaches the students woodworking, carpentry and construction skills, and as part of the program they do projects out in the community, building houses for kupuna or whatever, that provide them with practical life and work skills, give them a sense of service and accomplishment, and they earn wages for their work. We teamed up with them to provide the hands for the construction of this shed, where we can securely store our equipment and tools, and service our tractors.
