HAWAIIAN KINGDOM BICENTENNIAL TO BE OBSERVED
“A Nation Reunited” Theme of `Iolani Palace Event
HONOLULU, HAWAI`I – A two-day event marking the bicentennial of the Hawaiian Kingdom will be held at `Iolani Palace this Saturday and Sunday.
Sponsored by the Lawful Hawaiian Government, “Ho`okahi Lahui Hawai`i – One Nation,” is a call to reunite native Hawaiians and others.
“This is a call to all our Kanaka Maoli people and Kingdom nationals to rally together to remember our collective history and plan our future,” states Lawful Hawaiian Government Prime Minister Henry Noa. “Enough talking – it’s time to start doing.”
2010 Marks 200 years since Hawai`i became a nation, when Kamehameha the Great united the Hawaiian Islands in 1810.
January 17, 1893 marks the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom by the United States and a handful of wealthy foreign sugar barons.
“With the Akaka bill looming, it’s time to stand together as one people,” remarks Noa. “We demand our country and our future back.”
With the whitewash of facts of the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom by American history books, “Ho`okahi Lahui Hawai`i – One Nation,” will reconnect Hawaiian Kingdom subjects with each other as well as their relationship to the Kingdom, which has been under prolonged illegal occupation by the US.
Expected to draw large crowds, this two-day event is free, open to the public, and will include hula, live music, cultural ceremonies arts and crafts, an essay and poem competition, and a march on Sunday morning.
