Reminder:
5 pm at Iolani Palace today to commemorate the proclaiming into existence of the (so-called) Republic of Hawaii, July 4, 1894.  Join us.  Since we don’t celebrate America’s independence, we continue to call attention to what has happened in Hawaii and that we are, indeed, an independent country of our own.  We can celebrate that!  We expect some interesting things to happen, separate from the reading/re-enactment/educational part.  And bring some refreshment to share!  Park in the palace grounds.  This is a permit-free event. 🙂

    Aloha,
As a native Hawaiian of British descent, I racked my brain as to how I might add my two-pence, as it were, to the American July 4th celebration of the former British colonies freedom from England. So, to share and not to boast, I had a Hawaiian Kingdom Flag about 1′ x 2′ in size flying upside down denoting distress flying big and bright on the front of my bike. I rode from Makiki to Ala Moana then down Kalakaua to Kapahulu and back home via Ala Wai. I got many great responses and a few !$@%£%£$%’s but all in all it was my time to remind the Yanks of the hypocracy of celebrating, in Hawai’i proper, their freedom from Great Britain and then haaving stolen, suppressed, and sullied the freedom of the Kingdom of Hawai’i! And what’s more stealing the future of the Kingdom, the genius of the Mo’i who brought Hawai’i into the world stage and what they might have offered in the Twentieth and Twenty-first centuries to the nations of the world in terms of sustainability and aloha….more!

The “Republic” was a sham that covered for US policy that continues to this day.; Has the US no shame?
The ills unleashed plague us today. It’s time to reclaim our history and our freedom.
