Subject:  CANCELLED – SATURDAY 7/24 EVENT
Aloha everyone,
I am writing to let you know that for a number of reasons I have had to cancel this Saturday’s (7/24) event. But I do hope that all of you will at sometime in the future, send me your manao on the various concerns within this event paper. I am hoping that in December we can meet and discuss these topics. This will assist us in putting together a report for a closing of the year meeting at Kawaiahao Church. I look forward to hearing from you.
Aloha,
Mel Kalahiki

Sai v. Obama et al amended

On July 15, 2010 an “Amended Complaint” was filed with the Federal Court in Washington, D.C. (Case no: 1:10-CV-00899CKK) removing President Obama as one of the Defendants but all other Defendants remain. In Fitzgerald v. Nixon (1982) the court ruled the U.S. President has complete immunity from civil lawsuits. Rule 24 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure allows the Plaintiff to amend the complaint without permission from the Court if there was no response filed by the Defendants with the Court beforehand. The amended complaint with additional refinements can be downloaded at http://hawaiiankingdom.org/sai-obama.shtml. The case is remains Sai v. Obama, et al. even though Obama is no longer a Defendant.

Agreement reached on Akaka Bill

FYI, Sen. Akaka press release:

Today U.S. Senators Daniel K. Akaka and Daniel K. Inouye announced that they have reached an agreement with Governor Linda Lingle that will secure the Governor’s full support for the Native Hawaiian Government Reorganization Act.  […]
Senators Akaka and Inouye will offer an amendment that will make changes affecting the powers and authorities of the Native Hawaiian governing entity during the period before legislation is enacted to implement agreements reached during three party negotiations.
[…]
The amendment will make changes to Section 9 of the bill.  The changes will ensure that during the interim period the Native Hawaiian governing entity will be subject to the state’s regulatory authority affecting public health and safety, until a temporary agreement is reached between the entity and state and approved by the Secretary of the Interior.  It will also make clear that the Native Hawaiian governing entity’s officers and employees will not be immune from the state’s criminal laws.

Iolani Palace today July 4

Date: Sun, 4 Jul 2010 08:05:21 -1000

Reminder:
5 pm at Iolani Palace today to commemorate the proclaiming into existence of the (so-called) Republic of Hawaii, July 4, 1894.  Join us.  Since we don’t celebrate America’s independence, we continue to call attention to what has happened in Hawaii and that we are, indeed, an independent country of our own.  We can celebrate that!  We expect some interesting things to happen, separate from the reading/re-enactment/educational part.  And bring some refreshment to share!  Park in the palace grounds.  This is a permit-free event. 🙂
