For Immediate Release: January 12, 2006 Hawaiian Homes Begins Largest Project in History of Trust HONOLULU - The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) has issued an Invitation-For-Bids (IFB) for the East Kapolei 1 Mass Grading project, the largest residential housing development in the history of the Hawaiian Homes Trust. The project calls for the mass grading of a 96.83-acre parcel that will include a 403-lot subdivision, the future site of the DHHL offices, and the extension of Kapolei Parkway to connect with the future North / South Road. See extended entry for the rest... "East Kapolei 1 is our largest housing project to date, and we believe is a key component to the region," said Micah Kane, Chairman of the Hawaiian Homes Commission. "This opens the door for the Kapolei Parkway extension and the development of the North/South Road. With our project, we can begin bringing in the infrastructure that will support better traffic management, our commercial properties in the area, and the University of Hawaii's West Oahu Campus." "The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands is a great catalyst for the area," said Governor Linda Lingle. "The entire community will benefit through this affordable housing project." Bid forms for the Invitation-for-Bids (IFB), which was advertised on January 9, 2006, may be examined or obtained from DHHL's Land Management Division at 1099 Alakea Street, Suite 1230, in Honolulu. A compact disc containing the construction plans, specifications, instructions, terms and conditions, and geotechnical report is available at a cost of $10. A pre-bid meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at the DHHL 20th Floor Conference Room, 1099 Alakea Street in Honolulu. A job-site visit will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2006, at 9:00 a.m., starting at the east end of Kapolei Parkway. All potential interested bidders, offerors, subcontractors and union representatives are invited to attend. Attendance in not mandatory. A written Notice of Intent to Bid must be received by the Land Development Division by Tuesday, January 31, 2006. A notarized Standard of Qualification Questionnaire for Offerors (form SPO-21), must be submitted by Thursday, February 2, 2006. The IFB deadline is 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2006. Questions regarding this project may be directed in writing to Darrell Ing, DHHL Land Development Division, P.O.
