Taro production hits record low
The
Advertiser
reports
that "The production of taro is at an all-time low, and the state is struggling
to combat threats to the industry from two pests: the apple snail and the
disease known as taro pocket rot. The low taro supply — which also
resulted from storms and flooding in the past year — has not yet affected
the stock of poi on supermarket shelves. That could change with the approach of
summer, when graduation parties and other events drive up
demand."See
