International law adhered to?

In today's Maui News, Pat Kean angrily blames socialist radicals, the Democratic Party and Hawaiian activists for impoverishing Native Hawaiians, and says the historical record "shows beyond any doubt international law was adhered to by Sanford Dole and the U.S." But here's plenty of documented doubt, and in fact the Justice Department in 1988 (under Reagan, by the way) said it was not just adherence to international law that was in doubt, but that it was even "unclear which constitutional power Congress exercised when it acquired Hawaii by joint resolution." If you wish to respond...

Jim Hylkema also, well, doesn't say something nice about Ken Conklin's earlier letter.

Rewriting Hawaii history stunting Hawaiian potential

A June 11 letter is a sorry example of how the hate generated by socialist radicals in the Democratic Party and its ilk can prevent a people from experiencing full human potential.

Public Law 103-150 (Letters, June 11) clearly is based on Sen. James Blount's report. The fact Blount was a racist ex-confederate who was on Senate record of not wanting more "brownies" in the union was overlooked by Democrats bent on a touchy-feely moment. The fact 103-150 was drafted by a Hawaiian revisionist UH activist was overlooked.

The fact the Democratic majority in the 1993 Senate rammed the resolution though after an hour of debate is also overlooked.

Fortunately for Hawaii there are public records in Honolulu - newspapers, Legislature records, voter lists, diplomatic letters, petitions and Queen Lili'uokalani's personal diary. This record shows beyond any doubt international law was adhered to by Sanford Dole and the U.S.

Instead of spending time improving social and economic skills, these pieces of socialist-created debris spend thousands of hours hating and searching for any nit-picky bit of fantasy nonsense to blame for their sorry state in life.

Hawaiian activists have much to blame for impoverishing people they claim to be helping. Democratic Party activists have destroyed self-esteem and economic outcome of African-Americans in similar fashion. Is there a lesson there?

No comment is a comment about anti-sovereignty letter

My mother told us often, if you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything at all.

I have nothing to say about Kenneth Conklin (Letters, June 10).
