I realize in looking at my pix from last
weekend's Taro Festival that I hardly got any shots at all on Saturday of the
festival itself, except for the traditional poi pounding demonstration that I

I was too busy talking story with
folks.
But I did get some shots on
Sunday of the two excursions.
Kumu Francis Palani Sinenci, master hale builder,
shares stories about the restoration of the heiau in 1999, which was scheduled
to take three years but which they completed in eleven and a half
months.
Another
section of the heiau behind. Approaching to offer
ho'okupu.
Blowing
the pu
'ohe.
Passing
ho'okupu. (Great to see Lynette and James
there.)
Ho'okupu.
This
is just a cool hau tunnel that you walk through to start and end the
tour.
(Next
I'll post some shots from Kapahu Farm Sunday afternoon.)
is about Hawaii's status as an independent country under prolonged illegal occupation by the United States, and the history, culture, law & politics of the islands.
And about East Maui kalo farming and other projects. Plus popoki pics (cats).
Over at the Free Hawaii blog, Koani Foundation is giving away "Free Hawaii" stickers and pins, and will post photos of them displayed in interesting places. Spread them far and wide!
